WeCoExist is built so there is nothing personal to protect. No student names, no accounts, no logins — just a bin, a sensor, and a number.
Each device records four things: how full the bin is (measured in centimetres of empty space), the device ID (like wce1), the bin's height, and the time of the reading. That is the entire record. Readings are taken only when a student plugs the device in — about one reading per school day.
No student names, photos, voices, logins, or accounts. Students never enter any information about themselves — they only type a device ID to view their class data. WeCoExist does not know which students, or how many, use a device. Your school assigns devices to classrooms; that assignment stays with the school.
Devices connect through a teacher's phone hotspot or the school's guest WiFi — never the school's internal network. The device sends one small reading and switches off. It has no microphone and no camera.
Readings are sent over an encrypted connection and stored in a secure cloud database hosted in Australia.
Anyone with a device ID can view that bin's fill percentages. We keep this open deliberately: because no personal information exists in the system, the data is safe to share — and open data is part of the learning. Class and school names shown on the dashboard are chosen by the school.
When a school's rental period finishes, readings are deleted within 30 days, unless the school asks us to keep them for a future term.
We align our practices with the Australian Privacy Principles. If you have any questions about data handling — from a parent, teacher, or IT team — email us and you'll get a straight answer.
